Shopify checkout migration — frequently asked questions

Clear answers about the June 30, 2026 Shopify Scripts deprecation, the checkout.liquid removal, tracking pixel migration, and how Checkout Migration Expert audits your store.

What is the Shopify Scripts deprecation deadline?

Shopify Scripts stop executing on June 30, 2026. Any active Scripts on your store — including line-item discounts, shipping rate customizations, and payment method hiding rules — will silently stop working after that date. Shopify will not run them, and orders will process without any Script-based modifications applied.

#

What happens to my discounts and shipping rules after June 30, 2026?

Discounts created with Shopify Scripts will stop applying — customers will be charged full price at checkout. Shipping rate rules and payment-method hiding logic implemented via Scripts will also stop. You need to rebuild each Script as a Shopify Function before the deadline to keep the same behavior.

#

What is checkout.liquid and why is it being removed?

checkout.liquid is a legacy Shopify Plus theme file used to customize checkout pages. Shopify deprecated it on August 28, 2025 as part of the Checkout Extensibility migration. Any tracking pixels or UI code in checkout.liquid no longer fires reliably during checkout. Plus merchants must migrate to Checkout UI Extensions and Custom Pixels.

#

What replaces Shopify Scripts?

Shopify Functions. Functions are written in JavaScript or Rust, run server-side in WebAssembly, and cover discount logic, shipping customizations, and payment customizations — the same surface area Scripts covered. Functions are faster, version-controlled, and remain officially supported long-term.

#

Why have my Meta Pixel and GA4 conversions dropped since August 2025?

Since the August 28, 2025 PII change, Shopify no longer passes customer identifiers from theme.liquid into the checkout iframe. Pixels embedded in theme.liquid (Meta, GA4, TikTok) cannot see checkout completion events anymore. The fix is to register your tracking as a Custom Pixel under Settings → Customer Events, which receives server-side checkout events with proper consent.

What is Checkout Migration Expert?

Checkout Migration Expert is a Shopify app that audits your store for migration risks tied to the June 30, 2026 Shopify Scripts deprecation. It scans Shopify Scripts, checkout.liquid, theme.liquid pixel embeds, legacy ScriptTag installs, and Web Pixel registration. You get a health score from 0 to 100, a prioritized list of findings, and step-by-step fix guidance with links to Shopify documentation.

#

Do I need this app if I'm not on Shopify Plus?

Partially. Shopify Scripts are Plus-only, but checkout.liquid, tracking pixel migration, and the legacy ScriptTag API affect every Shopify plan. If you have tracking pixels in your theme files or third-party apps using older script-tag installs, this audit applies to your store too.

#

Will Checkout Migration Expert fix my checkout automatically?

No. Checkout Migration Expert is a read-only audit and reporting tool — it never modifies your store. Each finding includes step-by-step guidance and official Shopify documentation links so you or your developer can apply the fix safely. If you want hands-on help, the $499 Done-For-You plan adds a migration consultant who performs the work for you.

#

How much does Checkout Migration Expert cost?

Three plans: Basic at $9.99/month (full audits + monthly automated re-scans), Pro at $29.99/month (weekly automated re-scans + email alerts when new issues appear + fix progress tracking), and a one-time $499 Done-For-You migration service. Both monthly plans include a 7-day free trial.

#

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Both Basic and Pro plans include a 7-day free trial. You can run unlimited audits during the trial. If you cancel before the trial ends, you are not charged. Billing is handled entirely by Shopify — no card details are stored by us.

#

What Shopify permissions does the app request?

Read-only scopes only: read_themes, read_script_tags, read_discounts, read_pixels, read_customer_events, read_products, and read_orders. The app cannot modify your store, edit themes, change discounts, or process customer data. We do not request any customer-data scopes.

#

How long does an audit take?

Around 5 to 10 seconds for most stores. The app runs four parallel GraphQL queries against the Shopify Admin API to inspect themes, script tags, web pixels, and discount metadata. Results appear in the dashboard as soon as the scan completes.

#

What is the difference between the Basic and Pro plans?

Basic ($9.99/month) includes full on-demand audits and one automated re-scan per month. Pro ($29.99/month) adds weekly automated re-scans, email alerts when new critical or warning issues appear, and fix-progress tracking for each finding. Both plans include unlimited manual audits and all audit categories.

#

What does the $499 Done-For-You service include?

A migration consultant performs the full Shopify Scripts to Functions migration, sets up your Custom Pixels for accurate checkout tracking (Meta, GA4, TikTok), and runs pre- and post-migration audits to verify everything works. Includes 30 days of follow-up support. Email sales@vibhora.com to start.

#

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes. Cancel from the Billing page inside the app at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle. Your audit history is retained for 30 days after cancellation in case you reinstall.

#

How often should I re-run audits?

At least once a month, and after any theme change, app installation, or checkout configuration update. The Pro plan automates this with weekly re-scans and emails you when new issues appear. The Basic plan re-scans monthly. You can also re-run manually anytime from the dashboard.
